Mary Beecher Longyear chartered a biblical research foundation in 1920 to research "original" meanings in the Bible - free from imposed doctrinal creeds, hierarchies, institutional interpretation, or selective translation, and to make the findings available to the public. Over the past 100 years her foundation has made significant contributions to biblical research.

The Endowment for Biblical Research, Boston (EBR) is a nonsectarian grant-making foundation, incorporated in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Its purpose is to advance scholarly research into, and the general study of, biblical origins, shedding greater light on the meaning of the scriptural texts in the time they were first written and heard.
